Ms Angela Balfe

Head of Year 12

Angela studied English and History at the University of Limerick in Ireland,  where she also completed an M.A. in History. After graduating in 2013, she pursued a PGCE in History at Canterbury Christ Church University in the UK. Angela began her teaching career at The Thomas Aveling School in Kent, teaching History across KS3–KS5, before moving to Dubai in 2019 to join Jumeirah College as a teacher of History and Politics.

Angela is passionate about her subjects, believing that History provides students with the critical tools to understand the past and Politics equips them to navigate the complexities of the present. She teaches across all year groups and places great importance on encouraging debate and discussion, helping students to develop confidence in expressing their views while engaging with different perspectives.

In addition to her teaching, Angela became the school’s EPQ Coordinator in 2023. She is committed to ensuring that students flourish as independent learners and leave Jumeirah College ready to embrace the opportunities and challenges of university and beyond.

Angela was appointed Assistant Head of Year 12 and 13 in 2024 and was delighted to take on the role of Head of Year 12 this academic year. She looks forward to supporting students through their sixth form journey, helping them to achieve academic success while also growing as individuals.
