Statement of Intent
Having joined Jumeirah College in August 2020 I am keen to build on previous achievements and create a climate that is receptive to the need for an honest appraisal of the many facets of school life. This requires that all are encouraged and stimulated to participate and contribute and that they perceive that their participation and contributions are taken seriously. This allows the institution to challenge complacency and orthodoxy constructively and facilitates a relentless focus on the shared vision for outstanding achievement.
Central to effective school leadership is the need for an explicit educational philosophy. Put simplistically - my focus is on four key areas of guarantee and expectation: that students will be happy, safe and healthy; will be offered a broad and balanced curriculum with genuine academic rigour; will have access to a wide variety of extra-curricular and creative opportunities; and will make a sustained contribution to the community in its widest sense – locally, nationally and globally. It is vitally important that students leave with a sense of self-esteem and self-awareness, able to take their place in professional life in the fast-changing world of the 21st century. International mindedness and a global perspective is an integral requirement of a first class education, inculcating sustainable, principled and balanced values in today’s young people.
As we approach the end of term 1 routines and protocols regarding Covid -19 requirements are now well established and we hope soon to being able to extend what we are able to offer at Jumeirah College in addition to the taught curriculum. We are keen to return to the full extra-curricular programme as soon as this is possible
During the course of this term I have been meeting with all school staff individually, working closely with student leadership and focus groups, alongside the Jumeirah College Parent group and Local Advisory Board to establish a “cherish and change” agenda. It asks the simple question, “what do you most cherish about Jumeirah College and what and how would you make changes where you think they are needed?” It is really important to me that there is a collective vision established at this point to allow us genuine clarity on how we drive the school forward over the next 3-5 year development cycle.
I trust that this will allow us to move forward with the confidence that comes from a collaborative and consensual approach.
We look forward to when we will be able to meet you all face to face and welcome visitors and stakeholders back on to the school premises.
