Arabic is spoken by more than three million people of Arabic origin living in the United States, United Kingdom and Canada.

Curriculum Organisation
• Students receive 3 lessons of Arabic per week.
• Students have the option of choosing Arabic as a GCSE, however, only students who are very motivated should consider choosing Arabic at this level.
• The work covered is from the textbook ‘your Arabic friend’. This book is published by Edexcel which is the exam board we use at GCSE level. (1607)

Independent Study
• Homework will be set twice a week.
• All homework and deadlines will be recorded in students’ planners.
• Homework should be completed to the highest standard and presentation should follow the department’s guidelines.
• Students are encouraged to use language websites to consolidate language learnt in class.

Assessment and Reporting
• Ongoing informal assessment will take place in class throughout the year in the  three skills (reading, writing and listening.) There is no speaking component in the GCSE Arabic exam.
• At the end of Year 10 (as part of their end of year examination) students will complete a listening, writing and reading paper. These will be past GCSE papers which will give students a clear idea of the levels they are working at and a GCSE grade will be awarded.

Extra Curricular Opportunities:-
There will be an Arabic language club offering students the opportunity to develop their knowledge of Arabic vocabulary and structures. This will enable the students to gain extra practice in the three skills examined at GCSE level.
