Welcome to year 8 Arabic at Jumeirah College

Following the Ministry of Education ruling, it is compulsory that students in KS3 study Arabic.

Curriculum Organisation

Students receive 2 hours per week of Arabic and are taught in mixed ability groups. Students remain in their Form groups for their Arabic lessons.
The work covered is from the text book ‘Auhibu Alarabia’ as per Ministry of Education requirements.

Independent Study

Homework is set once a week and might involve learning, reading, writing or a creative activity. All homework deadlines will be recorded in the students’ planners. Homework should be completed to the highest standards and handed in on time.
Students complete projects throughout the year on various aspects of Arabic culture for example Arabic music, food, sport and leisure.

Assessment and reporting

Written homework is marked and a comment in Arabic will be written next to each piece of work. Arabic Cultural projects are awarded a grade A – D according to criteria that looks at research skills, presentation and content.

End of Unit Test
There are also end of unit vocabulary tests and a mark is given out of 20.

End of Year exam

The end of year examination includes all of the themes introduced in Year 8. The end of year examination will test the students reading and writing skills in Arabic and an overall percentage will be awarded.

Extra Curricular Opportunities

There will be an Arabic language club offering students the opportunity to develop their knowledge of Arabic vocabulary and structures. The Arabic language club will focus on conversational Arabic.

Autumn Term:

• In the city.
• In the island of treasures.
• In the grand mother house.
• Let us have fun.
• The months of the year.

 

Spring Term:

• At the restaurant.
• How to cross the road.
• The escaped lion.
• The seasons of the year.


Summer Term:

• Around the gulf.
• The sports Day.
• I love spring.
• Clothes.
