Welcome to Year 10 ART at Jumeirah College

GCSE Year 10 Art and Design Full Course AQA 4210

The GCSE Art and Design course has been designed to encourage an adventurous and enquiring approach to art and design. Successful students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of past and contemporary art and design practice and be able to produce artwork that embraces a range of ideas. Students will explore past and contemporary Art and Design, analysing the works of artist’s and designers and will use a journal/sketchbook as the integral part for recording and documenting their responses and own ideas.

Curriculum Organisation
-Students have 3 lessons a week and are taught in mixed ability groups. Lessons are well structured and students are provided with a range of materials and resources.

Independent Study
Expectations are very high at GCSE and students are required to do at least 2 hours a week of independent work and will be given specific tasks for homework.

Assessment and Reporting
Assessment will take place for each objective and students will be graded after each completed task. Monitoring is also providing to enable all students to reach their potential.

Extra Curricular Opportunities in Art
The Art Department is open every lunch time and after school and students are able to use the materials and receive advice from staff. Clubs are available and Gallery trips are organised.

Autumn Term:
Natural forms Project 1: is intended to form the basis in which students develop their skills through workshop based activities, which enables students to develop their recording skills and demonstrate skilful use of the formal elements, including line, tone, colour, shape, pattern, texture, form and structure.

Spring and Summer Term:
Extending Natural Forms: This will enable students to indepenantly select a theme they wish to explore further. Students will develop an understanding in creating a rich visual language within the context of selected ideas. Students will be given the opportunity to build on their skills and will experiment with a wide range of media and methods, learning how to transform materials in order to reflect the different qualities of their observed forms and images. Through an informed use of visual language, students can more successfully develop and communicate their ideas
