Welcome to English Literature A2 at Jumeirah College
In Year 13 we follow the AQA Syllabus, specification A. The A2 level consists of 3 units.
Curriculum Organisation
- 6 lessons per week, 2 teachers with 3 lessons each
- Module 4 – Texts in Time (Examination)
- Module 5 – Literary Connections (Coursework)
- Module 6 – Reading For Meaning (Examination)
Independent Study
As with all A2 Level courses there is an understanding that students take responsibility for their own independent study in addition to the prescribed homework tasks set by the class teacher.
Homework tasks (essays, research, case studies) set at the end of each key phase of learning (typically monthly) with formal written feedback given using exam board criteria.
Assessment and Reporting
Module 4
• Examination 2 Hours closed book
• Section A - 1 pre-1770 Drama – e.g Hamlet, Edward II.
• Section B- 1 pre-1900 Poetry - Lyrical Ballads – William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge.
Module 5
• Coursework- Literary Connections. Minds under Stress
• The Bell Jar . Sylvia Plath
• One Flew Over The Cuckoo.s Nest . Ken Kesey
Module 6
• 3hrs 1 compulsory question : unprepared texts
• Synoptic Unit Examination; War in Literature, with specific reference to literature written about and during The First World War.
• Progress reports to parents on a regular basis
• Regular timed assessments with formal written feedback which references the exam criteria
