Welcome to Year 13 English Language and Literature at Jumeirah College
In Year 13 we follow the AQA Syllabus, specification A for English Language and Literature. The A2 level consists of 3 units.
Curriculum Organisation
- 6 lessons per week, 2 teachers with 3 lessons each
- Module 4 - Comparative Literary Studies
- Module 5 - Texts and Audience
- Module 6 - Language in context
Independent Study
- As with all A2 Level courses there is an understanding that students take responsibility for their own independent study in addition to the prescribed homework tasks set by the class teacher.
- Homework tasks (essays, research, case studies) set at the end of each key phase of learning (typically monthly) with formal written feedback given using exam board criteria.
Assessment and Reporting
Module 4 – Comparative Literary Studies
• Exam: 1 hour 30 minutes
• Clean copies of the prescribed examination texts will be used in the examination
Module 5 – Texts and Audience
• Exam: 2 hours 15 minutes
• Closed book exam
Module 6 – Language in context
• Exam: 2 hours 30 minutes
• Unseen texts include literary and non-literary writing and spontaneous unscripted speech
- Progress reports to parents on a regular basis
- Regular timed assessments with formal written feedback which references the exam criteria
