What is Biology?

Biology comes from the greek words bios, meaning life and logos, meaning study and is defined in the Oxford dictionary as the scientific study of living organisms. 

Biology today is so much more, and the courses delivered in our curriculum aim to
a) develop student interest in, and enthusiasm for, biology including developing an interest in further study and careers in the subject
b) appreciate how society makes decisions about biology-related issues and how biology contributes to the success of the economy and society
c) develop and demonstrate a deeper appreciation of the skills, knowledge and understanding of How Science Works
d) develop essential knowledge and understanding of different areas of biology and how they relate to each other.

The Edexcel AS GCE in Biology (8BI01) and Edexcel A2 Biology (9BI01) are delivered by a team of five experienced, subject specialist members of staff.
