Welcome to Year 7 Geography

Curriculum Organisation
 2 periods per week
 Teaching groups are of mixed ability and students remain in their form groups for these.
 The work covered is from a variety of textbooks including Foundations and geog.1 and is supplemented by numerous worksheets and videos

Independent Study
 Homework will be set each week according to the timetable
 All homework and deadlines will be recorded in students’ planners.
 Homework should be completed to the highest standard and presentation should follow the department’s guidelines.
 Students are encouraged to use geographically relevant websites to consolidate learning in class.
 There will be a selection of enquiry-based, learning activities for homeworks.  We also encourage students to watch relevant documentaries whenever possible.  Geography is ‘on your doorstep’ so always be observant!

Assessment and Reporting
 Parents will receive progress reports on a regular basis
 Selected pieces of homework and classwork are assessed throughout the year according to National Curriculum guidelines and a National Curriculum level of attainment will be given.
 Students are provided with a sheet in the front of their exercise books in which they can record their progress.  This also displays the marking criteria used by the department.
 There will be a formal examination at the end of the year based on most / all of the topics covered.

Extra-Curricular Opportunities in Geography
 Day trip to Dubai museum + dhow trip along the creek will enable the students to learn more about the land use in Dubai and the factors affecting the growth of the city.
