The main aim of The Jumeirah College History programme is to help students realise how fascinating History can be. The course is founded on the belief that students can cope with an investigation of real historical issues – issues that would interest a historian – as long as these are presented at an appropriate level.
Students are encouraged to see the dynamics of historical change and, in particular, to examine the impact these changes had on ordinary people. They are also encouraged to appreciate major influences on particular civilisations and to develop an understanding of similarities and differences between civilisations in contrasting periods.
The study of History enables students to develop a huge range of skills, from those of analysis, source enquiry, interpretation, to critical thinking, empathy and many more. This prepares students well for further study in a range of subjects, from politics and philosophy to economics and law and for the pursuit of many diverse career options, such as Journalism, the Civil Service, Teaching, PR and Law.
History is a very popular subject at Jumeirah College and our students continue to achieve excellent grades each year. Nine of our fourteen A2 History students achieved A grades in 2009, demonstrating the drive, ambition and ability of students of History at this school.
